Description
The fruity expression of a great Margaux
Through its Alter Ego 2017, Château Palmer once again demonstrates its precision and consistency of style, though this wine offers a different expression of terroir. With a strong personality of its own, Alter Ego has become one of the most sought-after Second Wines of the famous Margaux appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux.
Product of a challenging vintage, the Château Palmer Alter Ego 2017 comes through with flying colours. As the saying goes, "Great terroirs look to the water". Due to its enviable location in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, Château Palmer was largely preserved from the horrors of the disastrous frost at the end of April, which devastated most of the Bordeaux region. The 2017 harvest was early, starting on September 20th with the fruit having reached an optimal phase of phenolic maturity.
All the know-how and expertise of Château Palmer's technical teams came through to make the most of the 2017 vintage. Made of a blend dominated by Merlot (53%), supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (41%) and Petit Verdot (6%), the Alter Ego 2017 reflects a style apart, confirming its rank well beyond that of a Second Wine. A perfect understanding of the vineyard plots and the various expressions of the terroir, the vinification of this wine was very precise and neat. The Alter Ego 2017 by Château Palmer already offers a wonderfully charming style: fruity on the nose with an intense aromatic expression, supple on the palate with gentle tannins, the Château Palmer Alter Ego 2017 suggests a very promising potential to age.
