Description

The smoothness and finesse of a Venetian wine

The estate

The story of Bertani, one of the most important producers in the Veneto region, began in 1857, when two brothers, Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, decided to settle in Quinto Di Valpantena, north of Verona, Italy. A student of the famous Professor Guyot, Gaetano Bertani set out to apply the techniques he had learned in Bordeaux to Italian wines, in the spirit of that period of innovation that marked the advance of modern viticulture, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. In 1958, Bertani became one of the most famous names in the Veneto region with the release of an iconic wine, Amarone.

The vineyard

With 200 hectares of vineyards in one of the most prestigious areas of Valpolicella around Verona, Bertani's wines demonstrate the full character of their terroir, including Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, the star wine of northern Italy. Valpantena 2019 is made from the eponymous vineyards, which lie on soils composed of limestone and marl on the eastern side and limestone and clay on the western side of the vineyard.

Winemaking and ageing

After the harvest, the grapes are taken to the cellar to begin the vinification process. During fermentation, the grapes are left to rest on their skins for a long time to develop intense fruity notes. The wine is then aged in Slovenian oak barrels for 24 months.

Blend

Corvina Veronese (80%) and Rondinella (20%).
