Description
Three great vintages of an illustrious Italian wine together in an exceptional case from Borgogno
The estate
Borgogno is a major name among Italian wines and is one of the oldest producers in Langa and Piedmont. Founded in 1761, the Borgogno estate has experienced significant international development since the 1920s, driven by Cesare Borgogno. The Farinetti family acquired the estate in 2008. Andrea Farinetti has been at the head of the estate since 2010.
The vineyard
Run in a sustainable fashion with no chemical inputs, the Borgogno estate’s vineyard is located in Piedmont, stretching across 30.8 hectares of vines planted on a soil made up of clay-limestone marls. This soil plays its part in the unique signature of the estate’s wines.
The wine
Cannubi Riserva from Domaine Borgogno is a Barolo wine from a 1.30-hectare vineyard. The terroir, placed at an altitude of 290-315 metres and facing south, is made up of clay-limestone marl, sand and silt.
Marking a new page in the history of the estate, Borgogno's Cannubi Riserva Collection 2023 is an exceptional box set of three great vintages of this wine: 2009, 2011 and 2012.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed in the cellar. Spontaneous fermentation is carried out in steel tanks by indigenous yeasts for about 12 days at controlled temperatures (22-25°C at the beginning, 29-30°C at the end). 30 days of maceration in immersed buckets at a stable temperature of 25°C precede racking. Then, malolactic fermentation takes place and lasts about 15 days at 22°C. Finally, the wine rests for 4 years in oak barrels while awaiting further ageing in the bottle.
