Description
The freshness and complexity of a Patagonian Chardonnay
The estate
Bodega Chacra is located in the heart of the Río Negro region, on the southern tip of Argentina. It was Piero Incisa della Rocchetta who brought this rare gem to life in 2004. The venture began during a tasting in New York, when he discovered a wine that particularly caught his eye: a Pinot Noir from Río Negro. It was a revelation, and he immediately spotted the potential that these terroirs had to offer - ungrafted vines dating from 1932, massal sélections and ideal climatic conditions. Piero Incisa della Rocchetta set sail to create the wines of his dreams in this jewel of nature, which can transmit the taste of "a place on the planet," as he puts it.
The wine
Mainqué Chardonnay 2022 is the result of a collaboration between Bodega Chacra and Jean-Marc Roulot, eminent Meursault winemaker.
The vineyard
Bodega Chacra is anchored in the heart of Patagonia's Río Negro region, a land formed by the junction of two rivers, the Limay and the Neuquén. They then extend as far as the eye can see, into the plains and forests, at an altitude of between 290 and 330 metres. It is here, in the heart of this green lung, that the estate thrives, nestling in a natural setting of 24 hectares of vines. The estate is farmed organically and biodynamically.
Winemaking and ageing
The wine is aged for 11 months, 46% in French oak barrels (9% of which are new), 36% in stainless steel vats and 18% in concrete vats.
