Description
The balance and richness of a Castillon Côte de Bordeaux red wine
The estate
Born into a line of winegrowers, François Despagne inherited Château Grand Corbin-Despagne in Saint-Émilion in 1996. Three years later, François Despagne set himself the challenge of creating a new vineyard. To do this, the owner decided not to turn to Saint-Émilion, but to Castillon. With the help of his wife Murielle, he created Château Ampélia, whose name comes from the Greek word 'ampelos,' or vine.
The vineyard
Château Ampélia 2022 is a Castillon Côte de Bordeaux wine that stems from a 8.80-hectare vineyard, resting on clay-limestone soils on limestone rock. The vines making up this terroir are 30 years old on average. The vineyard is run under Organic Agriculture practices.
Winemaking and ageing
Mechanical harvest with densimetric sorting. The grapes are placed in 6 temperature-controlled vats. Pumping over, délestage and punching down depending on the batch and the vintage. Ageing in vats (50%), new barrels (20%) and at least one wine (30%). The wine is bottled 21 months after the harvest.
Blend
Château Ampélia 2022 stems from Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).
