    Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Branaire-Ducru 2023

    Tasting

    Nose
Expressive, the nose combines with a beautiful freshness fruity and spicy fragrances.

    Palate
A broad and round attack precedes a palate whose melted tannins and depth stretch to a finish whose persistence equals elegance.

The tension and complexity of a balanced and delicate Saint-Julien red wine

    The estate

Classified Grand Cru in 1855, the Château Branaire-Ducru is one of the great names of the Saint-Julien appellation. Owned by François Xavier Maroteaux, the son of the late Patrick Maroteaux, and managed by Jean-Dominique Videau, Château Branaire-Ducru offers, vintage after vintage, a superb expression of this great terroir on the left bank of Bordeaux with crus recognized for their elegance, their velvety texture on the palate and their consistency.

    The vineyard

The Château Branaire-Ducru 2023 is a Saint-Julien wine from a 60-hectare vineyard. The vines, averaging 35 years old (but some are centenarians), are planted on Quaternary gravel-siliceous alluvial soils, recognized as one of the warmest terroirs in the region allowing late grape varieties to develop ensuring perfect phenolic ripening.

    The vintage

A particularly wet start to winter precedes a mild end to March which promotes homogeneous bud break and rapid vegetative development. Despite significant mildew pressure due to alternating hot and humid conditions, flowering is qualitative. Without excessive heat, the start of summer gives way to an unstable August offset by two heatwave episodes from 18 to 24 August and from 4 to 7 September, ensuring progressive tannin ripening and good berry concentration.

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (61%)
    Merlot (30%)
    Cabernet Franc (5.5%)
    Petit Verdot (3.5%).
