Description
A powerful and delicious red Grand Cru Classé of Graves
After a difficult beginning to the year, the 2018 vintage turned out to be very successful at Château Carbonnieux, a Grand Cru Classé de Graves located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
While powerful rainstorms and hailstorms in the spring affected the vineyards of Château Carbonnieux, the sky cleared in the summertime, which was hot and dry, yielding perfectly ripened grapes just in time for the harvest. Although the yields are much lower than usual, the quality is exceptional.
The Château Carbonnieux rouge 2018 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The wine is aged for 15 to 18 months in Bordeaux barrels, 40% of which is of new oak.
At the tasting, the Château Carbonnieux red 2018 presents a purple colour, dense and deep, shimmering with ruby reflections. The aromatic bouquet seduces with its intensely fruity expression, revealing notes of red berries. The personality of each grape variety is fully expressed, with notes of blueberry contributed to the wonderfully ripe Merlot, and smoky notes from the Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate, the wine is very powerful, evolving a delicious rounded and generous texture with slightly woody notes. The tannins are remarkably structured and polished. A very rich wine indeed, the Château Carbonnieux red 2018 is undoubtedly a great vintage of the property, with a future full of promise.
