Description
A fresh and complex great Pauillac red wine
The estate
With origins dating back to the 18th century, when the estate was part of the Seigneurie de Lafite, Château Clerc Milon takes its name from the Clerc family, who owned the hamlet of Pauillac where Château Milon was located. In 1855, the estate was awarded the title of Fifth Cru Classé, making it one of the Médoc's greatest crus. In 1970, Baron Philippe de Rothschild decided to acquire the estate in order to bring out the full potential of this great terroir. In 2007, Château Clerc Milon acquired a new fully gravity-fed vat room, followed in 2011 by a semi-underground barrel cellar and a reception and tasting room.
The vineyard
Château Clerc Milon is a Pauillac wine produced from a 41-hectare vineyard, a large part of which is located on the Mousset hillside overlooking the Gironde. Situated in the north-eastern part of the Pauillac appellation, this terroir is made up of sandy gravel soils resting on a clay-limestone bedrock which outcrops in the eastern part of the estate.
The vintage
2022 began with mild and relatively dry conditions. Rainfall in April and June was ideal for replenishing water reserves. Thanks to this and their deep roots, the vines were able to withstand the extreme weather conditions. Flowering was early and uniform. Despite their small size, the grapes ripened perfectly in a perfectly healthy vineyard. The harvested grapes revealed a superb alchemy of concentration, balance and elegance.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (59%)
Merlot (32%)
Cabernet Franc (8%)
