Description
An elegant and balanced Pessac-Léognan red wine
The estate
Château Couhins retrieved archives that hark back to the 18th century. This estate initially combined two former Graves wineries. Regarded as an integral part of the INRA (National Institute of Agricultural Research) establishment, Château Couhins provides its know-how and its vineyard in order to drive forward the institute’s research and innovations.
The vineyard
Château Couhins 2021 is a Pessac-Léognan red wine produced from a 22-hectare vineyard located in the area surrounding Villenave d'Ornon, on the outskirts of Bordeaux. The vines are planted on a tapestry of terroirs and rest on a gravelly hill and a clay-limestone slope. In order to best preserve this treasured terroir, the estate uses sustainable viticultural practices. Certified as a High Environmental Value estate, Château Couhins is currently converting to organic farming.
Vinification and ageing
Following the harvest, the destemmed grapes are sorted based on their density. Vatting time lasts 21 to 28 days on average and is followed by vinification with punching of the cap, gentle remontage and delestage. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (49%)
Merlot (44%)
Petit Verdot (7%).
