Description
A fine white wine of Barsac with ginger and pear aromas
The estate
Château Coutet is located in the Barsac appellation in the Sauternes region. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, soon-to-be president of the United States remarked that Château Coutet was the best Sauternes wine from Barsac. The word "Coutet" is derived from the Gascon word for “knife.” This word perfectly sums up the unique style of the estate's wines, which are sharp, lively and fresh.
The vintage
A humid spring allowed for a good development of the vine and a flowering that began under excellent conditions in June. The hot and dry summer was punctuated by a few light rainstorms towards the end of the season, allowing the fruit to ripen perfectly. The arrival of the fog started off the harvest in early October, after botytris cinerea has developed on the fruit.
The winemaking
Manual harvest with successive sorting from October 3 to 23. Fermentation in barrels (50% new oak).
The ageing
18 months in French oak barrels. Bottling in June 2021.
The blend
Sémillon (75%), sauvignon blanc (23%), muscadelle (2%)
The tasting
The Château Coutet 2019 reveals a bouquet marked by notes of ginger, pear and exotic fruits. For this 2019 vintage, the palate is particularly fresh, signifying a resolutely modern Coutet.
