    Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Fonréaud 2023

    Tasting

Appealing for its density and velvety touch, this vintage ideally combines structure and freshness.

The vivacity and balance of a Listrac wine

    The estate

Located in the Listrac-Médoc appellation, the Château Fonréaud is one of the unmissable references of the Médoc. Owned by the Chanfreau family and classified as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Fonréaud seduces enthusiasts with the style of its fruity and spicy wines evolving in a generous and gourmand palate, promising a great potential for evolution. This estate takes its name from a legend according to which King Henry II would have stopped there to quench his thirst. The term "Font-Réaux" meaning "Royal Fountain".

    The vineyard

The vineyard of this unmissable Listrac property extends over the high gravel terrace of the Médoc. Located between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, the 32-hectare vineyard occupies a privileged location and benefits from a unique microclimate. The vines are planted on Pyrenean gravel soils on a limestone base, promoting excellent drainage and good ripening of the grapes.

    The vintage

A cool winter marked by frosty episodes precedes a rainy spring. This is followed by a mild summer punctuated by some rain, ensuring optimal ripening of the berries. The colour change is rapid and homogeneous, suggesting a harvest of high quality.

    Vinification and ageing

Ageing in oak barrels, 30% of which are new.

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (55%)
    Merlot (40%)
    Petit Verdot (5%).
