Description
A refined and aromatic red wine from Pauillac
The property
With a vineyard located on the greatest terroirs of Pauillac, the Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is one of the most beautiful properties of the prestigious appellation located on the left bank of Bordeaux. Founded in 1675, this 5th Cru Classé distinguishes itself by its Pauillac wines offering, through their structure and their incredible aging capacity, a precise definition of this exceptional terroir.
The vineyard
Patiently constituted and assembled by the lawyer Pierre Ducasse in the 18th century, the vineyard of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse extends over 40 hectares spread over three large plots of Pauillac planted on silico-gravelly Garonne gravel terroirs.
The vintage
If the year 2014 is marked by a very rainy spring and gloomy conditions during the summer season, the exceptional Indian summer until the end of October is a savior for the vineyard. The fully ripe grapes harvested are of perfect quality.
Vinification and aging
The manually harvested grapes are rigorously sorted in the vineyards and by optical sorting upon their arrival at the winery. Vinification in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Some of the batches undergo their malolactic fermentation in new barrels. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (62%)
Merlot (38%).
