Description

The harmony and complexity of an iconic Premier Grand Cru Classé

The estate

The oldest of the Bordeaux Grands Crus, the Château Haut-Brion boasts a rich heritage built over five centuries of history. Founded in 1533 by Jean de Pontac in the Graves region, the wine of Château Haut-Brion was quickly coveted and appreciated by the greatest monarchs of Europe. In 1663, Samuel Pepys, a member of the English Parliament, unknowingly contributed to the success of Château Haut-Brion through his diary, writing "And there, I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan which had a very particular good taste that I had never encountered...". The legend was born. First Grand Cru Classé outside Médoc in 1855 and recognized as a Classified Growth in the Official Classification of Graves Wines in 1959, Château Haut-Brion continues to write the legend of the greatest wines of Bordeaux but also international, confirming, vintage after vintage, its exceptional consistency.

The vineyard

A true viticultural jewel of the A.O.C of Pessac-Léognan located in the heart of the Pessac agglomeration, Château Haut-Brion has an exceptional terroir on soils composed of multicolored gravels that produce sumptuous, elegant, precise wines with incredible consistency from one vintage to another.

The vintage

Memorable in every respect, 2019 will be even more so for Château Haut-Brion as it is the 96th vintage produced by the Delmas family. 2019 is thus the last vintage of Jean-Philippe Delmas's father, after having carried out 43 harvests at Château Haut-Brion. Particularly hot and dry, the 2019 vintage nevertheless unfolded under the best auspices. The maturation of the white grape varieties went smoothly and the rains in September accelerated the maturity of the red grape varieties. The harvest thus began on August 29 for the white grape varieties and on September 10 for the red grape varieties, revealing the superb quality of the harvested berries.

Blend

Merlot (48.7%)

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Haut-Brion 2019

Tasting

Color
The color is a beautiful purplish red.

Nose
Combining intensity and subtlety, the aromatic bouquet seduces with its complexity and the maturity of the fruit.

Palate
From the attack, the palate captivates the taste buds with the smoothness of its texture. All in delicacy, the development in the mouth reveals a tight tannic structure and deliciously enchanting. Merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon form a harmonious and complementary ensemble, stretching in the length of a remarkably fragrant finish. Recalling the 1990, 2005 and 2010 vintages, Château Haut-Brion 2019 red is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful successes of the estate.
