Description

A Pessac-Léognan that combines freshness and aromatic richness

The property

The name of Château La Louvière suggests that the origins of the estate date back to the 13th century, when the provost of Léognan Guilhem de la Louvière would have given his name to the castle. After having shone in the hands of the Guilloche and Chartreux families, in 1791 the estate became the property of Jean-Baptiste Marheilac, a great merchant from Bordeaux. He asked François Lhote to build the superb castle which still stands out today as one of the most beautiful of Bordeaux. Thanks to the great attention paid by the Marheilac family, who remained the owners for more than two centuries, the estate's wines stand out as some of the greatest wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Today, the château belongs to the André Lurton family, a great Bordeaux wine family.

The vineyard

This Château La Louvière 2020 comes from a 15 hectare vineyard in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Here, a terroir of deep gravel and outcrops of limestone and clay is planted with Sauvignon Blanc vines aged 26 years on average. Thanks to its environmentally friendly viticulture, the château is recognised for its High Environmental Value (Level 3/3).

The vintage

The 2020 vintage was marked by drought, which led to early harvests and a smaller volume than in previous years. Nevertheless, the grapes present a beautiful freshness and a great aromatic richness.

The vinification and ageing

After the manual harvest, the grapes are pressed and settling is carried out. Then, alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels. Finally, the wine ages for 10 months in barrels on its lees with regular stirring.

The blend

Sauvignon blanc (100%).

The tasting

The Château La Louvière 2020 embodies a fresh wine with a very beautiful aromatic palette. The fruitiness is underlined by a subtle and delicate woody note which highlights the aromatic richness of this 2020 vintage.
