Description
An elegant Premier Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes
A major property of the Silvio Denz Estates, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is an important reference of its appellation, and one that continues to grow in importance. This Premier Cru Classé of 1855 from Sauternes produces its great sweet wines from a vineyard of 36 hectares in the wine region of Bordeaux.
The month of September 2018 was marked in Sauternes by an important drought, not particularly conducive to the development of the famous Botrytis Cinerea, the noble rot necessary for the production of Sauternes wines. Fortunately, the cool nights of late September, which contrasted with sunny days, created the right conditions for the arrival of the noble rot. Harvested in three successive passes, the botrytised grapes were harvested between 25 September and 29 October. This extended harvest window required a very precise selection of the grapes and the very thorough work of the teams yielded fruit limited in quantity (7hl / ha), but of very high quality.
Composed of 95% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2018 vintage of this great Sauternes wine is characterised by a rich and very distinctive aromatic profile: roasted fruits, candied orange peel, apricot, apple sauce... generous flavours that never become too heavy on the palate, even though the acidity is lower than in the 2017 vintage. The sharpness on the palate, which is tasty without becoming bitter, contributes to a balanced and delicious experience. A very successful vintage indeed.
