2014 Saint-Julien from Bordeaux

The 2014 Léoville-Poyferré displays an inky purple-tinted dense red colour with blue highlights. This wine of Chateau Leoville Poyferré releases right away an ample, fresh and scrumptious aromatic expression on black cherry, smashed blackberry and blue cedar notes. This confers it a particular balsamic character. This Saint-Julien offers a mineral almost graphite hint reminding one of the siliceous aspect of its clayey and gravelly subsoil. The attack expresses frank acidity (giving good vibrancy to the wine) that gives way to tight but very noble (ripe and well-extracted) tannins on the mid-palate. The fruity finish shows a pleasing length. There is no doubt that this Deuxieme Cru Classé is a great success and has an honourable ageing potential.
