Description
The aromatic richness and concentration of a Médoc wine
The estate
Located in Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc, in the heart of the Médoc, Château Loudenne has its origins in the 17th century. One of the oldest estates in the Médoc, this property on Bordeaux’s Left Bank owes its uniqueness to its pink facades. After passing through many owners, Château Loudenne was acquired in 2022 by Christophe Gouache, a businessman who also owns Château Bellerive.
The vineyard
Château Loudenne 2022 is a Médoc wine made from a 37-hectare vineyard, where vines are 38 years old on average and are planted on two clayey Graves Garonnaises hilltops. Château Loudenne is recognised as one of the properties closest to the Gironde estuary. This unique geographical situation ensures both natural protection against frost and optimal ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
2022 was characterised by high temperatures and very little rainfall. Although the vineyard was not affected by the frost at the beginning of April, the major hail storm of 20 June destroyed part of the harvest. The dry conditions recorded during the spring were ideal for maintaining the health of the vineyard. Sufficient water reserves and clay soils minimised water stress. The early harvest allowed the grapes to maintain their balance and aromatic brightness.
