Description
A Pauillac wine reflecting the elegance and power of its terroir
The estate
A Pauillac 2nd Classified Growth of 1855 belonging the elite group of Bordeaux Grands Crus, Château Pichon Baron has produced an exceptional 2019 vintage, representative of the Pauillac appellation.
The vineyard
A veritable mosaic of terroirs and superbly located near the Gironde estuary, the Pichon Baron vineyard extends over 73 hectares of vines planted in Medoc gravels soils with perfect drainage.
The vintage
2019 was characterised by a mild winter and a cool spring. The hot, dry summer allowed the berries to ripen fully. An ideal autumn season was punctuated by a few rainy days.
The winemaking
Manual harvest with plot and intra-plot selection. Manual sorting. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Temperatures regulated between 25 and 29 ° C. Maceration between 15 and 23 days. Malolactic fermentation, then barrel ageing on fine lees. Vatting completed at the end of November. 18 months of ageing, 80% in new barrels, 20% in barrels of one pervious wine.
The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (87%), merlot (13%)
The tasting
The Château Pichon Baron 2019 offers an authentic vision of Pauillac with intense notes of black fruit and spices. This fine wine reveals a great elegance, power and exceptional length on the palate. The Pichon Baron 2019 will show fantastic potential for age, evolving in the bottle up until 2060.
