Description

A Saint-Julien with a dense and soft texture

A 4ème Cru Classé en 1855 produced in the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Talbot was named after Constable Talbot, a famous English warrior who lost the Battle of Castillon in 1453. Aged 44 years, on average, the vines cover a total area of 101 hectares and are planted on Médoc gravel. The ageing of the wine is carried out in barrels, of which 50% are new. The 1998 vintage is composed of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% de Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.

At tasting, the Château Talbot 1996 presents a pretty and bright red colour. The nose shows an intense and diversified bouquet. One can detect smoky fragrances and slightly toasted oak (merrains), along with light and harmonious notes of spices and ripe fruit. The wine shows great complexity on the palate, the various flavours highlighted upon a texture that combines density and mellowness. The tannins are beautiful and harmonious on the finish.
