Description
A Sauternes wine of finesse and balance
The estate
With the first harvest carried out in 1618, the Clos Haut-Peyraguey is a historic estate of Sauternes. This 1st Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes in 1855 is also the smallest in the appellation in terms of surface area, as it extends over 8.5 hectares. Located on the highest lands of the Bommes hill, Clos Haut-Peyraguey takes its name from Peyraguey which means hill or promontory. Acquired in 2012 by Bernard Magrez, Clos Haut-Peyraguey is among the most beautiful classified growths of Sauternes.
The vineyard
This Clos Haut-Peyraguey 2023 is a Sauternes wine from a single 6-hectare vineyard, located opposite Château d’Yquem. The 40-year-old vines on average are planted on gravelly-sandy soils resting on clay subsoils.
The vintage
A mild and wet winter precedes a dry and temperate spring. The summer is marked by dry and scorching conditions.
Vinification and ageing
Manual harvesting grain by grain. Gentle and long pressings accompanied by a rigorous selection of juices precede fermentations in barrels.
Blend
This Clos Haut-Peyraguey 2023 is a blend of Sémillon (80%) and Sauvignon Blanc (20%).
