An exceptional chardonnay from the Piedmont terroirs
The property
Founded in 1340 by the Falletti family, the Cordero di Montezemolo estate is a pillar of Piedmont viticulture. Today led by Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his children, the vineyard extends over 51 hectares, including the historic site of Monfalletto in La Morra. The estate stands out for its Barolo "Enrico VI", from a 2.2 hectare plot in Villero, and for its commitment to natural viticultural practices. The family heritage, the exceptional terroir and the cedar of Lebanon planted in 1856 are symbols of its prestige.
The vineyard
The Elioro comes from two distinct plots in the Langhe: old chardonnay vines located at the foot of the Monfalletto hill at 230 meters altitude, and a younger vineyard in Cherasco peaking at 400 meters. The soils, mainly loamy-clay with a low proportion of sand and little active limestone, give the wine its characteristic structure and minerality.
Vinification and aging
Manual harvest during the first decade of September. After immediate crushing with partial destemming, the must undergoes gentle pressing. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks for 24 hours before continuing in French oak barrels for 20 to 30 days. Aging takes place in 228 and 500 liter barrels (mix of new wood and several wines) for 9 to 12 months accompanied by rare stirring, followed by a rest of about one year in bottle before marketing.
