A powerful and elegant Gevrey-Chambertin wine
The property
The Armand Heitz Estate was founded in the 19th century by the Nié-Vantey family, who acquired several plots in Burgundy. The vineyard remains in the same lineage until its transfer to Armand Heitz in 2011. At the head of the property since 2011, he initiated a new era of winemaking in 2013. The estate stands out for its commitment to sustainable viticulture and agro-ecology, respecting biodiversity and ecosystems. It produces wines from prestigious plots, while integrating eco-responsible agricultural activities.
The vineyard
Located 10 km from Dijon, Gevrey-Chambertin marks the beginning of the "Champs-Élysées of Burgundy" and constitutes the flagship appellation of the Côte de Nuits. The first village in the Côte d'Or to have added the name of its grand cru in 1847, it stands out for its reddish, shallow and stony soils, composed of marls covered with scree and red silts. These characteristics give these Burgundy wines their distinctive power.
The vintage
The year 2021 in Gevrey-Chambertin was marked by a particularly severe spring frost episode, followed by a relatively cool and wet summer. These conditions required increased vigilance in the vineyards and a rigorous selection of grapes at harvest, resulting in reduced yields but wines of beautiful freshness and good concentration.
Vinification and aging
Vinification is carried out with 100% whole clusters, thus preserving the integrity of the fruit and the aromatic complexity. The aging continued for 14 months in oak barrels, with a proportion of 20 to 40% new barrels.
Blend
Pinot noir (100%).
