A remarkable albariño emblematic of Rías Baixas
The property
Since 1985, Bodegas La Val has established itself as an emblematic estate and one of the founding pillars of the Rías Baixas appellation, in Galicia. Now owned by the prestigious CVNE House (reference of La Rioja), Bodegas La Val is among the largest wine estates in the region.
The vineyard
With 94 hectares of vineyards mainly dedicated to albariño, these exceptional terroirs (Vilachán, Taboexa, Arantei and Porto) shape wines of great finesse. The vineyard extends along the Miño River, from the highest and granitic areas of Condado do Tea (Taboexa), passing through the pebble terraces of Salvaterra (Arantei and Porto), to its end near the Atlantic Ocean, in O Rosal (Vilachán). This vineyard, composed of plots of different ages, soils and climates, gives complexity and character to the wine.
The vintage
The early bud break began in early March after a warm and dry winter. A warm and humid spring ensured the necessary water supply for the vine. The main climatic incidents included violent hailstorms, without impact on the vineyard, and an explosive cyclogenesis on June 6, with winds of over 90 km/h causing some branch breakages. The mild summer favored a slow and balanced maturation, offering a moderate alcohol content and ideal acidity.
Vinification and aging
The Gran Añada 2019 comes from a manual harvest in 20 kg boxes. After a cold stabilization at 10°C, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing. Traditional fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then partially aged in French oak barrels of 500 and 600 liters and partially in vats on fine lees.
