Description

The precision and complexity of a great vintage in 9 signed Cheval Blanc

The property

Known worldwide, Château Cheval Blanc, 1er Grand Cru Classé A, is part of the legendary properties of the wines from the right bank of the Bordeaux region. The Second Wine of the property, Petit Cheval, offers a superb introduction to the excellence of the grand wine Cheval Blanc, with wines that are refined, powerful, and have a palate with striking and delicious fruit. With a new cellar designed by Christian de Portzamparc and inaugurated in June 2011, Château Cheval Blanc continues to write the legend of the greatest wines of the Bordeaux region.

The vineyard

Château Cheval Blanc benefits from a unique and rare terroir, enjoying a particular position on the plateau of Saint-Émilion. While the Saint-Émilion appellation is known for its limestone formations, Château Cheval Blanc is located on the Quaternary alluvium of the Isle, a non-limestone formation with a varied texture, combining gravel and clay soils in roughly equal proportions. This particularity of the soils means that this property benefits from soils similar to those of the greatest wines of Pomerol.

The vintage

The 2019 vintage was marked by low disease pressures. If the rains in June made us fear the appearance of mildew, this was not the case for the vineyard of Château Cheval Blanc. The ideal climatic conditions during the summer allowed the harvest to start serenely with berries in perfect health. In the end, this 2019 vintage has allowed to transcribe with precision the identity of the three types of terroirs of Château Cheval Blanc. The richness and power of the merlots were controlled thanks to early harvests while the cabernets benefited from a slower maturation allowing them to develop all the finesse of the tannins.

Blend

Merlot (58%)
Cabernet franc (34%)
Cabernet sauvignon (8%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Cheval Blanc 2019

Tasting

Nose
The nose impresses with its aromatic complexity. The typicity of the merlot, predominantly present, is expressed in the blend by notes of red and black fruits. Notes of raspberry, cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant are precisely outlined, charming the nose with a sensation of sweet and balsamic notes.

Palate
The attack on the palate is marked by charm and generosity, immediately evoking the full roundness of the merlot. Creamy, the palate coats the mouth with its dense and tender texture. In the mid-palate, the imprint of the cabernet franc manifests itself by a sensation of great freshness that stretches the wine in the finish. Combining power, depth, density, freshness and tension, Château Cheval Blanc 2019 certainly writes the history of a very great vintage for the iconic property.
