A seductive Rhône Valley red wine of balance and finesse
The property
Founded in the 16th century, the Château de Beaucastel was taken over at the beginning of the 20th century by Pierre Tramier. While his son-in-law, Pierre Perrin, gave a new impetus to the estate, its significant reputation was developed beyond borders thanks to Jacques Perrin. The sons and grandsons of Jacques Perrin still perpetuate today the quest for excellence of this family estate, which is one of the most beautiful labels of Rhône Valley wines.
The vineyard
Château de Beaucastel oversees a 110-hectare vineyard in one piece in the North of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Conducted in Organic Agriculture since the 1960s, the vines are planted on soils composed of rolled pebbles on the surface as well as clay, sand and limestone in depth.
The vintage
2022 was marked by extreme climatic conditions but favorable to a good quality of grapes, despite uneven yields according to the plots. The very dry winter and spring ensured excellent health, while the August rains allowed progressive maturation despite a very hot summer. The harvest began early, on August 19, under good conditions. The rosés were elaborated with finesse, offering freshness and lightness, while the red wines present balance and complexity.
Vinification and aging
Manual harvest then vinification in truncated wooden vats (for syrah and mourvèdre) and in traditional concrete and enameled sandstone vats for the other grape varieties. The blend is made following malolactic fermentation. Aging in oak barrels for one year.
Blend
Grenache (30%), mourvèdre (30%), syrah (15%), counoise (10%), vaccarèse, terret noir, muscardin, clairette, picpoul, picardan, bourboulenc, roussanne (10%), cinsault (5%).
