Description
A smooth and well-structured red from Fronsac
Chateau de La Dauphine is a red wine produced in the Fronsac appellation. The vineyard has vines that are 26 years old on average, planted on 53 hectares. The soil is composed of a calcium, limestone, clay, and silt mixture. The vineyard is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged by plot for 12 months, with 30% new barrels.
2016 was very complicated at the beginning of the year, with a lot of rain and mildew. The summer was very dry and at the end of August, an exceptional year was not expected. However, September and October changed that with lots of sunshine and light rains. Harvest was then carried out with the grapes at optimum ripeness. After sorting, the juices were very deeply coloured, indicating the presence of tannins in the wine.
Chateau de La Dauphine 2016 is balanced with an ideal level of acidity which gives freshness and great ageing potential. This elegant product develops a very beautiful bouquet of ripe fruit. In the mouth, it is smooth and well-structured with silky tannins. Similar to the magnificent 2015 vintage, 2016 is even more concentrated and brilliant.
