The property
Founded in the 13th century, the Château Lafite Rothschild, located in Pauillac, Bordeaux, is a pillar of global oenology. Acquired by Baron James de Rothschild in 1868, it is now led by Saskia de Rothschild, who embodies a modern and sustainable vision. The vineyard, famous for its unique soils and exceptional terroir, produces elegant and balanced wines, contrasting with more powerful styles.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Pauillac, the Château Lafite Rothschild vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir composed of deep gravel and fine sands on a limestone subsoil. This unique soil composition, combined with the proximity of the Gironde estuary which regulates temperatures, offers ideal conditions for the flourishing of Bordeaux grape varieties, particularly the cabernet sauvignon which constitutes the majority of the planting.
The vintage
The warm spring and low rainfall at the beginning of the year gave way to a rainier summer. The persistent threat of mildew required constant vigilance from the teams. In addition, a hailstorm on September 1st affected the north of Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe.
Vinification and aging
Parcel vinification adapted to each vat. Alcoholic fermentation in wooden and stainless steel vats. Maceration of 15 to 20 days, followed by a malolactic fermentation. The aging continued for 20 months in new barrels.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (80%), merlot (20%).
