Description
A Classified Growth from Pauillac that combines freshness, power and elegance
The property
Located at the gates of Pauillac, the Château Lynch Bages is a property that has marked the history of the Médoc. If the Bages terroir has been known since the 16th century, it was in the 18th century that it gained in fame. Under the leadership of the son of an Irish citizen named Thomas Lynch, the Bages cru was recognized at the universal exhibition in Paris. Entered into the fold of the J-M Cazes family on the eve of the Second World War, Château Lynch-Bages is one of the most beautiful references among the great wines of Pauillac.
In constant pursuit of excellence and innovation, Château Lynch-Bages carried out a new parcel division in 2006, breaking down 90 original cadastral parcels into 180 to 200 sub-parcels. The 2020 vintage is the first vintage to be produced in the brand new facilities of Château Lynch-Bages. Imagined by the architect Chien Chung (Didi) Pei, internationally recognized for his minimalist architectural style, this new vat room and its aging cellar are state-of-the-art tools aimed at magnifying through goldsmith vinifications the terroir of this emblematic property of Pauillac.
The vineyard
Château Lynch-Bages oversees a 90-hectare vineyard planted on Garonne gravels characteristic of the Pauillac terroir.
The vintage
The winter is mild and particularly rainy, an ideal condition for replenishing the soil's water reserves. If the alternation during the spring of warm days with rainy episodes leads to high sanitary pressure, the beginning of summer is very clement. The precocity of the vine is slowed down by the coolness of August, allowing the berries to develop a beautiful acidity. The harvest takes place under ideal conditions.
Vinification and aging
Harvested by hand, the grapes are subject to a rigorous sorting in the vineyard. The aging is 18 months in oak barrels, 75% of which are new.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (69%)
Merlot (26%)
Cabernet franc (3%)
Petit verdot (2%).
