Description
The aromatic richness and elegance of a great red wine from Margaux
The property
In the heart of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux stands the Château Marquis de Terme. The origins of the estate date back to the 15th century, but it took its current name in the 18th century when the Marquis de Terme took over. Since 1935, the Sénéclauze family has owned this Grand Cru of Margaux.
The vineyard
The 40 hectares of the Château Marquis de Terme vineyard are planted on deep gravel typical of the Margaux appellation, made up of thick quartz and quartzites. Some plots are more clayey. The vineyard is managed on a plot-by-plot basis and benefits from High Environmental Value 3 certification.
The vintage
A mild winter promoting early budding is followed by a rainy spring and a particularly hot and dry summer. Optimal conditions during the month of September refine the beautiful maturity of the berries, which produce an elegant and balanced wine.
Vinification and aging
Harvested manually in crates, the berries are sorted in the vineyard and in the winery. Parcel-by-parcel vinification is carried out in concrete, wood, and thermoregulated stainless steel vats, filled by gravity and without pumping. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out under natural yeasts. Sulfite-free vinification is accompanied by punch-downs. Aging in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (60%), merlot (35%) and petit verdot (5%).
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Marquis de Terme 2020
Tasting
Color
Intense and deep, the color presents violet reflections and ink-colored touches.
Nose
Expressive, the first nose reveals notes of violet and licorice. The cabernet sauvignon, a grape variety with a beautiful aromatic power, confers fruity fragrances (blackcurrant, red and black fruits) mixed with a subtle peppery note characteristic of petit verdot. As the wine breathes, elegant woody notes enhance the aromatic complexity with notes of roasting, mocha, and cedar.
Palate
Ample and velvety, the palate seduces with its notes of dense and enveloping black fruit, its tannic structure, and its silky touch.
