Description

The precision and concentration of a Saint-Estèphe Cru Classé in a fantastic vintage ending in -9

The estate
Owned by brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues since 2006, Château Montrose is an iconic reference of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. This Second Classified Growth of 1855 reigns over one of the most beautiful terroirs of the Médoc. In the past, as today, Château Montrose has stood out for the quality of its wines and a unique signature style that sets this world-renowned estate apart frrom the rest.

The vineyard
Boasting an exceptional location on one of the greatest terroirs of the Bordeaux region, the Château Montrose vineyard covers 95 hectares of vines. This vast vineyard, all in one piece, is a rarity, considered to be an "elite nucleus" of winemaking. Located not far from the Gironde estuary, the Montrose vineyard is planted on gravel terraces mixed with sand on the surface, upon a subsoil of clay.

The vintage
2019 was a very important vintage at Château Montrose, marked by the environmental approach undertaken by the team, the implementation of "green" cultivation practices out in the vineyards. This approach, coupled with the climatic conditions of the year led to a very successful harvest, which began on September 19 and ended on October 8. The harvest was carried out on a plot-by-plot basis, with grapes from the different lots vinified separately.

The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (64%), merlot (30%), cabernet franc (5%), petit verdot (1%).

The tasting
The first tastings of the Château Montrose 2019 confirmed that 2019 is undoubtedly one of the best vintages of the estate. Merlot was present in the same proportion as in the blend of the 2009. Combining precision, concentration and beautifully ripe tannins, the Château Montrose 2019 continues to make history in the Saint-Estèphe appellation.
