Description

Clos Fourtet 2016 : a Saint-Émilion that is dense on the palate

Clos Fourtet 2016 is a 1st Classified Growth B of Saint-Émilion. This red wine comes from a vineyard of 20 hectares aged 29 years on average. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils. The wine is matured in barrels for 15 months, with a proportion of 60% new barrels. Le Clos Fourtet 2016 consists of 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc.

The grapes were harvested during a magnificent end of season - under conditions that allowed for complete and ideal grape maturity - between the 4th and 20th of October.

With a deep garnet-red colour and ruby-like reflections, Clos Fourtet 2016 develops an intense nose, with floral (violet), fruity (cassis) and cigar box aromas. Even and dense on the palate, the wine presents a coated tannic texture, revealing itself to be unctuous and complex. Then, thanks to the minerality of the soil, the wine offers great complexity. The finish reveals a great length thanks to tasty touches of black fruits, peppermint and an incredible aromatic persistence.
