Description
A harmonious and elegant Second Red Wine from Margaux
The estate
4th Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the Château Prieuré-Lichine produces great wines from Margaux expressing all the typicity of this superb appellation located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
The Château du Prieuré de Cantenac becomes the Château Prieuré-Lichine following its purchase by the charismatic Alexis Lichine, the "Pope of wine" in 1951. Upon his death in 1989, his son Sacha takes over the reins of the estate until 1999, when the property enters the Ballande group's fold.
The vineyard
The vineyard of the Château Prieuré-Lichine extends over an area of 85 hectares. Composed of Garonne gravels, this typical terroir of the appellation captures the sun's heat during the day to better reflect it at night, thus ensuring optimal maturity of the grapes.
24 hectares are dedicated to the production of Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine, Second Wine of the Château Prieuré-Lichine. With an average age of 25 years, the vines planted on gravelly-sandy soils give birth to a Margaux wine revealing all the expression and diversity of the great terroirs of the appellation.
The wine
Made with the same precision and attention as the Grand Vin of the estate, benefiting from the follow-up and advice of the famous consulting oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine 2017 is made from a selection of young vines.
Vinification and aging
The grapes harvested manually in crates are subject to manual and optical sorting. Vinification without crushing. The aging lasts 12 months and is carried out in oak barrels (including 40% of barrels of one wine and 60% of barrels of two wines).
Blend
