The estate

Since 1513, the family estate Joseph Mellot has been an essential reference for Loire wines. Recognized beyond borders, the wines signed Joseph Mellot, made with integrity and respect for the environment, authentically express the diversity and richness of the Sancerre terroirs.

Following the death of her husband, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has perpetuated the quality and tradition of this estate since 2005. Joseph Mellot is the only estate to have plots in each appellation of the Centre-Loire. This uniqueness is the strength of the estate, whose vineyard extends over an area of about 105 hectares.

Resulting from a selection of the best terroirs and rigorous winemaking, the wines of the Joseph Mellot estate are recognized for their elegance, their accuracy and the unique expression of each cru that composes its vineyard.

The vineyard

The grapes used in the making of this Sancerre Pierre Étienne come from a 0.8 hectare vineyard whose vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on a soil of flint clay, characteristic of this Loire terroir.

The wine

This Sancerre wine was made in tribute to the founder of the Mellot dynasty in 1513. Produced only in very great vintages (3,000 bottles), this cuvée is offered in a replica of an old Sancerre bottle. The label and collar are a reproduction from the 1930s. As in the past, bottling and dressing are done by hand.

Vinification and aging

The grapes are subject to direct pressing. Fermentation is carried out in fine grain oak barrels. This white Sancerre wine is aged for 11 months in barrels with regular stirring, followed by a 10-month stay in the tank.
