The estate
The Bruguière family's passion for the lands of Pic Saint-Loup is rooted in a long history, dating back seven generations. The Mas Bruguière officially came into being at the end of the 18th century, when Antoine Bruguière, originally from Barou, acquired lands, forests and fields to cultivate vines. Devastated by the phylloxera crisis in the 1870s, the vineyard was replanted as early as 1880, dedicating all its activity to viticulture.
In 1956, severe frosts destroyed the vines. A new vineyard of about ten hectares was then set up, dedicated to the production of table grapes. It was in 1974 that Guilhem Bruguière and his wife gave a new impetus to the estate, then turned towards cooperation, by replanting traditional grape varieties. Their first cuvée, unveiled in 1986, met with immediate success, contributing to the recognition of Languedoc - Pic Saint-Loup wines.
Today, their son Xavier continues this family adventure, producing wines with absolute respect for the environment.
The vineyard
This Languedoc estate extends over 12 hectares divided into two distinct plots. The first, facing due south under the Hortus cliff, hosts old Grenache and Mourvèdre vines planted between 1987 and 2015. The second, facing north at the foot of Pic Saint-Loup, consists of Syrahs dating from 1980, rooted in clay-limestone soils. The entire vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of organic farming.
The wine
The La Grenadière cuvée is a Pic Saint Loup wine made from old vines rooted in the emblematic terroir of the estate. The Grenaches flourish on scree of soft limestones located at the bottom of the slope, while the Syrah thrives on clay-limestone lands.
Vinification and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand, then the grapes are transported by gravity into concrete vats for vinification. The aging takes place in two stages: 12 months in wooden vats, followed by 6 months in concrete vats.
Blend
La Grenadière 2022 from Mas Bruguiere is the result of a blend of Syrah and Grenache.
