The estate

It was in 1992 that the young Thierry Germain left his native Bordeaux to settle in the Anjou region. He thus took over the Domaine des Roches Neuves, founded in 1850 and established in Varrains, near Saumur, in the Loire. Considered one of the greatest winemakers of his generation, Thierry Germain produces parcelled cuvées that reflect with extreme precision the identity of the grape varieties grown on the estate and the chalky, tuffeau and clay-sandy terroirs of Anjou.
The terroir of Thierry Germain - Domaine des Roches Neuves now extends over an area of 23 hectares of vineyards in organic and biodynamic farming certified by Ecocert and Biodyvin. The soils are worked using a horse and the vines maintain natural grass cover.

The vineyard

L'Insolite by Thierry Germain - Domaine des Roches Neuves is a Loire wine made from vineyards located in the places called Les Cerpes and Saint-Vincent. The vines rest on clay-limestone soils composed of silt and flint.

Vinification and aging

The manually harvested grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in vat and barrel. Pneumatic pressing for 4 hours. This Saumur wine benefits from an aging period of nine months on fine lees.
