Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Y d’Yquem 2022
Tasting
Nose
Expressive, the nose exudes powdered and almond aromas, accompanied by floral notes of wild rose and hawthorn. It evolves towards intense aromas of pear and white peach, highlighted by herbaceous and lemony nuances that recall citrus leaves. The nose closes on solar touches of freshly cut golden wheat.
Palate
In the mouth, this wine combines finesse and vivacity, offering a broad and dense texture. It envelops the palate and reveals beautiful bitters, evoking grapefruit and mandarin zest, and extends on a saline touch that accentuates its beautiful persistence.
A dry white Bordeaux wine of great tension
The property
Located south of Bordeaux, the Château d'Yquem is one of the most beautiful references among the great wines of Sauternes. This legendary Premier Cru Classé Supérieur enjoys an exceptional terroir and gives birth to wines that are sought after worldwide.
The vineyard
Château d’Yquem is an extraordinary place, rich in a hundred hectares of vineyards planted on a mosaic of gravelly-sandy terroirs.
The wine
Produced under the Dry White Bordeaux appellation, Y is an exceptional wine, limited to a production of only 10,000 bottles per vintage. Coming from the same prestigious vineyards as Château d'Yquem, it stands out for its specific harvest and production method.
The vintage
The year 2022 will remain marked at Yquem as the hottest and driest since 1896. After a moderate spring, the growing season experiences intense heat from May to October, with temperatures 4°C above averages and 25 new daily records. The vegetative cycle is accelerated, with only 136 days between bud break and harvest, the shortest ever observed. The first sorting begins on August 9, the earliest in history.
Vinification and aging
In the cellar, this wine benefits from careful vinification including gentle and precise pressing, meticulous settling, and temperature-controlled fermentation. Aging on lees is then carried out in barrels, with a third of new wood, and regular stirring over ten months.
