An exceptional Rhône Valley red wine combining power and elegance
The property
Founded in 1920, the Yves Cuilleron estate, located in Chavanay in the Rhône Valley, now extends over 90 hectares spread over six prestigious appellations, including Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu. Yves Cuilleron, at the head of the property since 1987, has transformed the family estate into a major player in the Northern Rhône. He stands out for his environmentally friendly viticultural approach, with manual harvesting and parcel vinification. His commitment to the rehabilitation of terroirs and the authentic expression of grape varieties gives his wines international renown.
The vineyard
The Bassenon cuvée comes from a 2-hectare vineyard located on the Semons hillside in Côte-Rôtie. These plots, facing south on terraces, benefit from an exceptional terroir composed of migmatite granite and gneiss. This particular geological configuration allows for the production of grapes of remarkable quality, fully expressing the typicity of this exceptional terroir.
Vinification and aging
The grapes are hand-picked and then carefully sorted. Traditional parcel vinification respects the identity of each terroir. After partial destemming, maceration takes place for three weeks in open vats. Indigenous yeasts are favored, with minimal oenological intervention. Aging continues for 18 months in barrels before the final blending of the different parcels preceding bottling.
Blend
This Côte-Rôtie is composed of 90% syrah, providing structure, power and black fruit aromas, complemented by 10% viognier which brings finesse, floral aromas and aromatic complexity to the whole.
