Description
A fresh and intense red wine from Saint Joseph
The estate
The E. Guigal Estate was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, took over in 1961. Today, the 3rd generation continues the legacy and values of this iconic family house in the Rhône Valley.
Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, the E. Guigal estate oversees a mosaic of vineyards located in numerous appellations that form a range of wines of impeccable quality.
Over the vintages, the E. Guigal house has experienced strong growth, notably becoming the owner in 1995 of the famous Château d’Ampuis, as well as several wine estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine or even the Château de Nalys, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
The vineyard
This cuvée is a wine from the Rhône Valley from an iconic vineyard registered as "Saint-Joseph" within this appellation of the northern Côtes-du-Rhône. Aged between 20 and 75 years, the steep vines are planted on soils composed of gneiss with granite veins. This hillside gave its name to the Saint-Joseph Appellation when the A.O.C. were created.
The wine
This Saint-Joseph wine has a characteristic label created by Roger Pfund, a Franco-Swiss artist specializing in the design of banknotes. He was notably the designer of the last series of French banknotes.
Vinification and aging
After the harvest, the grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in thermoregulated vats. Aging in new barrels (50%) and one wine (50%).
Blend
This Lieu-dit Saint-Joseph 2022 from E. Guigal is a 100% syrah.
