The estate
Icon of the left bank, the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is undoubtedly one of the greatest names in the Bordeaux region. The 2nd Cru Classé in the Official Classification of 1855 embodies the perfect model of a great Saint-Julien. Entered into the Borie family fold in 1941, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou takes its name from its extraordinary terroir. Led with brilliance and determination by the talented Bruno Borie, Ducru-Beaucaillou belongs to the elite of the great wines of Saint-Julien.
The vineyard
The particularity of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou lies in the exceptional quality of its vineyard. The vines are planted on günzian and Pyrenean gravel soils deposited by the Gironde estuary nearly two million years ago. From these poor soils are born exceptional Saint-Julien wines. In addition, the proximity of the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard to the Gironde estuary provides natural protection against climatic hazards.
The wine
The Petit Ducru de Ducru-Beaucaillou is intended as an introduction to the style of its elders, the Grand Vin Ducru-Beaucaillou and La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou. With its own style, Le Petit Ducru shares with the other two wines of the estate the same attention paid during the vegetative cycle of the vine, the same uncompromising selection and the same rigorous vinification.
The vintage
If the mild winter favours an early bud break at the end of March, the month of May is marked by a homogeneous flowering and fruit set, thanks to the combination of warm and dry conditions. Early and rapid, the flowering that began on 22 May suggests a significant yield potential. The almost tropical humidity during the summer reinforces a mildew pressure mastered by the know-how of the teams. From mid-August, the high temperatures and low rainfall ensure optimal ripening of the berries while preserving a beautiful freshness.
Vinification and ageing
Ageing for 12 months.
Blend
Merlot (72%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (24%)
Petit Verdot (4%).
