The estate
Located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation and dating back to 1365, the Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the oldest châteaux in Bordeaux. This magnificent estate entered a new era in its history following its purchase by Daniel and Florence Cathiard in 1990. Driven with passion and ambition by the Cathiard couple, Château Smith Haut Laffite has risen to the rank of the most beautiful estates in Graves with crus worldwide renowned for their elegance and style, in red as in white.
The wine
Produced from vines resulting from a mass selection and made from rootstocks coming from mother vines of the estate, Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is the Second Wine of this Pessac-Léognan property.
Vinification and ageing
Hand harvesting in small crates followed by pressing. Fermentation in French oak barrels (50% new wood) after static settling at cold temperature. The ageing lasts 12 months on lees with stirring in barrels (50% new and 50% of one wine) made in the estate's cooperage.
