Description
A fruity and gourmet Alsace white wine by Trimbach
The estate
For more than 12 generations, the Maison Trimbach has been an emblematic reference among the finest Alsace wines. The balance between fruit, acidity and minerality is the guiding principle behind all the winemaking on this family estate, which is renowned for its unique style of wine that delights oenophiles all over the world.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the beautiful village of Ribeauvillé, in the heart of the Alsace Wine Route, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir, both in terms of its sandstone, limestone, marl and clay soils and its oceanic influences due to the nearby Vosges mountains. The Trimbach House reigns over a vineyard of 50 hectares that spreads over more than 50 plots and 9 villages.
The wine
Produced only in high quality and impeccable vintages, the Gewurztraminer "Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre" 2013 by the Trimbach House is made from old vines, aged over 50 years. The grapes used to make this wine come from a selection of vineyards located in different places: Trottacker (Ribeauvillé region) known for its deep clay-limestone soil, Gruenspiel (Bergheim) with a soil composed of Keuper marl and lastly Muehlforst (Hunawihr) with a marl-limestone soil on a shell limestone substratum. The residual sugar content of this wine is 18 g/l.
The vintage
A delay in flowering was recorded following the cool and damp conditions of winter and spring. The high summer temperatures, which caused local water stress, were partly offset by the low rainfall in August. The harvest was carried out under ideal conditions, combining sunshine during the day with cooler temperatures at night, resulting in a harvest of fresh grapes with controlled degrees of alcohol.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested when fully ripe, crushed and gently pressed. The vinification is carried out in stainless steel vats and old tuns. No malolactic fermentation or prolonged ageing on lees in order to preserve freshness, vivacity and fruity aromas. After bottling in the spring, the wine is aged in the cellar for a minimum of 6 years before being sold.
