Anchored in the heart of the Vinho Verde wine region, in the northwest of Portugal, Quinta do Ameal is an ancient property that emerged from history in 1710. This estate is unique for the beauty of its land but above all for its privileged location in the region of Lima, the cradle of the Loureiro grape variety.
Over the years, Quinta do Ameal has remained faithful to its origins and traditions while standing out for its organic practices in terms of viticulture. In this way, the property differentiates itself by bringing new perspectives to the Vinho Verde wine region. Quinta do Ameal stands out as a pioneering estate in that it produces wines of the highest quality from the Loureiro grape variety while offering cuvées with great ageing potential.
The property covers around thirty hectares, 14 of which are occupied by vines of the Loureiro grape variety. Over 800 meters, the vineyard of Quinta do Ameal extends along the banks of the Lima River. Nearly 8 hectares are home to a forest rich in variety between different types of trees such as chestnut trees, walnut trees and umbrella pines.
Although present throughout the entire Vinho Verde region, the Loureiro grape variety really reaches its full potential in the Lima sub-region. There, it offers its purest aromatic expression carried by a very beautiful acidity, a great elegance and an unparalleled freshness. In addition, this variety is particularly interesting for its ageing potential.
The meeting between the fascinating particularities of the Quinta do Ameal terroir, from its location to its granite soil through its oceanic climate typical of the region, and the philosophy of the estate marked by respect for nature produces singular wines. The Quinta do Ameal cuvées are characterised by their aromatic character which accurately reflects the impressive palette of nuances of the Loureiro grape variety.
