Description
A fresh and delicate white wine from Burgundy
The estate
Daughter of one of the most prominent wine families in Burgundy, Francine Picard took over the estate historically run by her father in the late 1990s. The Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve spreads across the municipalities of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, at the heart of the most beautiful climates and terroirs of the Burgundy wine region. With a desire for synergy between the earth and the wines, Francine Picard cultivates her plots respecting the principles of biodynamics and applies herself with passion and extreme attention to produce wines reflecting the identity of their terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the center of the village, the climate from which this wine from Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean originates is one of the oldest in Chassagne. The vines were mainly planted in the 1940s on gentle slopes, facing southeast with very red soils (iron oxide), light, shallow and not very stony.
Vinification and aging
Harvested and sorted by hand, the grapes are pressed whole. In pure respect of Burgundy tradition, alcoholic fermentation is carried out in barrels. The aging lasts 18 months on lees, including 10 months in oak (Burgundy piece).
Grape variety
This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Clos Saint Jean" 2021 from Au Pied du Mont Chauve is 100% chardonnay.
