It all started for the Boris Champy estate in 1984 when Didier Montchovet, son of a Nantoux winegrower, acquired a tiny plot of 0.5 hectares. From the beginning, this enthusiast chose the path of biodynamics and biology. This is how the estate became the first to be certified biodynamic by Demeter. The visionary spirit of this founder deeply anchors in the heart of the land an unwavering respect for the terroir, even as the estate continues to expand. With the purchase of small plots, the estate ended up imposing itself by its size and the quality of its land.
When Boris Champy, former technical director of the family house Louis Latour, took over the estate, he espoused this same philosophy, enhanced by his know-how and enthusiasm. From then on, Domaine Didier Montchovet was renamed Domaine Boris Champy.
Today, the estate extends over approximately 12 hectares in the heart of Burgundy, divided into two large areas. The Montagne de Cras, Le Clou and En Bignon plots cover land on the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Elsewhere, Pommard en Bœuf enjoys close proximity to two Beaune Premier Crus: Aux Coucherias and Les Vignes Franches.
The terroir of the Hautes Côtes is distinguished by its diversity. Indeed, exposures, altitudes, cultures and natural areas vary greatly from one place to another. Moreover, the cool climate suggests a bright future for this part of the region. In the years to come and in spite of global warming, the Boris Champy estate will continue to produce fine wines, remarkable for their fine acidity and precise maturity.
In order to preserve this unique terroir, Domaine Boris Champy follows the requirements of organic and biodynamic agriculture which considers that nature is a living ecosystem where animals, plants and humans are one and work in harmony. This deep respect for the vines extends to the cellar where the grapes undergo precise vinification. Thus, the estate produces great Burgundy wines where finesse accompanies each cuvée which still manages to develop a character of its own.
