While Patrice Rion was still in charge of the management and vinification of the Daniel Rion estate, he became independent with his wife Michèle. In 1990, the couple founded their own estate: they built a new winery and launched their company. Thanks to the reputation he had built up on his family's estate, Patrice Rion immediately conquered the international wine scene with this new venture. Indeed, known for his unceasing quest for innovation, he advocates a viticulture that is solidly based on research.
His innovative vision was passed on to his son Maxime who joined the family project in 2005. After studying oenology and viticulture, he cultivated the art of winemaking with the finest names in the industry. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he brings his young and bold spirit to his father's ideas to offer ever more qualitative wines.
Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, the family estate produces fine Burgundy wines. Most of the vineyard is planted with Pinot Noir, although a small plot of 1.30 hectares at Terres Blanches is used to make a white wine from Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. The work in the vineyard is very rigorous: each parcel is meticulously cared for by hand in order to preserve the vineyard and to offer very authentic and pure wines.
In order to offer the most beautiful nuances of Burgundy, Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion also vinifies grapes from other winemakers. This enables them to develop a varied and rich range with only wines that reflect their appellation. The terroir reveals its purest expression through the Rion signature, highlighting a fine, fresh and mineral Burgundy.
