Description

A delicate and expressive Beaune red wine

The estate

Founded in 1731 in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest wine houses in Burgundy. For nearly three centuries, 9 generations have taken over, one after the other, with the same ambition: to create an exceptional estate in Burgundy.

Gradually built up over the years, the vineyards of the Bouchard Père et Fils estate now cover 130 hectares of vines. Combining prestigious appellations with exceptional plots, the Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard constitutes a unique wine heritage in Burgundy.

The vineyard

This Beaune Premier Cru "Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jésus" Domaine 2021 wine from Bouchard Père & Fils takes its name from a historical anecdote linked to the Carmelite nun Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement. She is said to have predicted the birth of the future King of France despite his mother, Anne of Austria, being apparently infertile. This vineyard took the name of "Vigne de L'Enfant Jésus" at the birth of Louis XIV. Sold in 1791, when assets owned by the Church or the aristocracy were sold off to the public, this 3.92 hectare plot, with an east/south-east exposure on very gravelly clay-limestone soil, has since been owned by the Maison Bouchard Père & Fils.

Winemaking and ageing

Hand-picked, the grapes are meticulously sorted and totally or partially destemmed depending on the vintage. Fermentation in small containers. Gentle pressing. Vatting for 12 to 15 days. The wine is aged for 8 to 13 months in French oak barrels (20 to 60% of which are new) in the Bastions cellars of the old Château de Beaune.

Blend

Pinot Noir (100%).
