Description
The freshness and refinement of a Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
Premier Grand Cru Classé B, Château Beau-Séjour Bécot shines in the Saint-Émilion appellation, on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.
The vineyard
Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is a Saint-Émilion wine that stems from a 17-hectare vineyard. The vines, 34 years old on average, are planted on clay-limestone soils on a plateau in the western part of the appellation.
The vineyard is made up of Merlot (76%), Cabernet Franc (22%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
The vintage
A particularly mild and dry winter advanced an early budburst. The spring was mild and wet, with a few frosts that did not affect the vineyard. Flowering was uniform. Despite the summer drought, the vines drew the necessary reserves from their roots and the clay-limestone soils to limit water stress. The rainfall from mid-August onwards was restorative, ensuring gradual and optimal ripening of the grapes. Despite small grapes and low yields, the quality is high.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes were harvested by hand intra-plot, followed by destemming and manual sorting. Vinification by plot. Thermo-regulated vatting. Traditional alcoholic fermentation in inverted truncated cone vats. Vatting time of 33 days. Gentle extraction in infusion mode. Airtight maceration. Aged for 16 months in barrels (55% new, 25% one wine) as well as in 20 hl amphorae and tuns (25%).
