    Description

A fine and aromatic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

    The estate

The Château Beauséjour has been recognised since the inception of the Saint-Émilion classification. A family property since 1847, this Premier Grand Cru Classé of the famous appellation located on the right bank of Bordeaux was acquired in April 2021 by the Courtin-Clarins family in association with Joséphine Duffau-Lagarosse.

    The vineyard

Château Beauséjour is a Saint-Émilion wine from a 6.80 hectare terroir, of which 6.20 hectares are in production. With an average age of 45 years, the old vines are planted on a mosaic of terroirs formed by clay-limestone soils on limestone with asterias. Rooted on the hillside of the medieval city, the vineyard is managed using traditional methods and most often manually.

    The wine

This 2023 vintage is the last to have been produced in the historic vat room of the estate, before its replacement by a state-of-the-art tool in 2024.

    The vintage

The mildness of the early year promotes a beautiful flowering followed by a vegetative development suggesting generous yields. The summer is marked by unstable weather giving way to high heat from mid-August before a particularly favourable late season. Lasting 9 days, the harvest is the longest in the history of the estate.

    Vinification and ageing

The harvest is carried out manually. Intra-parcel selection to ensure harvest at optimal maturity. Ageing from 14 to 16 months in barrels (including 63% new barrels).

    Blend

The Château Beauséjour 2023 is a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
