Description
The richness of a structured and powerful fine red wine from Moulis-en-Médoc
The estate
On the Grand Poujeaux plateau, Château Branas Grand Poujeaux is located between two great Médoc estates. This Moulis-en-Médoc property has been owned by Julien Onclin since 2002.
The vineyard
The 12-hectare Château Branas Grand Poujeaux vineyard is planted in Garonne gravel.
The vintage
Winter was colder than usual but from March onwards the region enjoyed plenty of sunshine. After a somewhat rainy April and a stormy May, the flowering in June was homogeneous. The hot and dry summer led to water stress, alleviated by precipitation in August, which allowed for homogeneous veraison. The month of September favoured the optimal ripeness of the fruit, producing a vintage full of charm and elegance.
The winemaking
Manual harvest from September 19 to October 8. Traditional vinification. Pour-overs, punch-downs, rack and return. Post-fermentation maceration.
The ageing
14 to 16 months. 60% new oak. 40% barrels of one previous wine.
The blend
Merlot (75%), cabernet sauvignon (23%), petit verdot (2%).
The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Château Branas Grand Poujeaux 2019 is an aromatic wine, marked by notes of ripe fruit. On the palate, its supple structure is well constructed, offering an opulent, rich and powerful texture.
