Description
A white wine from Pessac-Léognan with a seductive aromatic expression and freshness
The estate
Château Carbonnieux was founded in the 13th century by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix. Located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the château is one of the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux. In 1956, Marc Perrin acquired the château, which became a Classified Growth in 1959 for its red and white wines.
The vineyard
Château Carbonnieux 2021 is a Pessac-Léognan wine made from a vineyard that extends over a tapestry of soils ranging from clay-limestone to Günzian gravel. 45 hectares are dedicated to white grape varieties. The vines are 30 years old on average. The entire vineyard bears the High Environmental Value level 3 label. In 2021, 25% of the vineyard is managed using organic farming practices.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are selected both on the vine and on a sorting table, before undergoing gentle pneumatic pressing and cold settling. Fermentation is carried out in barrels and tuns, before ageing in barrels (25% of which are new wood) for around 10 months with stirring.
The blend
This Château Carbonnieux 2021 white wine comprises a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (67%) and Sémillon (33%).
